OREANDA-NEWS. January 11, 2011. The Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov is convinced that reforming the agricultural sector needs attraction of significant investment and change of the attitude of farmers to land.

"What can we do to raise our agrarian complex? We need huge investment, but most importantly - a sense of the owner. The owner of that land for which one is responsible, where one will work" - Mykola Azarov emphasized.

The Head of the Government noted that previous agricultural reforms were not sufficiently effective. The Prime Minister added that the irresponsible increase of rape crop and other industrial crops without compliance with rotation state caused significant losses. "Rape crops, industrial crops weaken our land, make it unfit for food production for many years. I was surprised by the ease of tenants sending huge area for industrial crops"- he said.

The Head of the Government noted that farmers would be involved in development of land reform to maximize their interests to be taken into account. "The question is difficult. The question is political. Therefore, we will prepare the bill; we will discuss this bill, especially with farmers. We will try to find the formula in which we will consider international experience, including traditional understanding of our land" - the Prime Minister concluded.
