OREANDA-NEWS. January 25, 2011. Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko comes out against new foreign sovereign borrowing. Lukashenko was speaking at a government session that addressed the country’s economic development.

“We must live up to our incomes. No more printing money, no new foreign debts. Enough. No more foreign borrowing at high rates – this is the right approach, it is not debatable,” Lukashenko said.

On December 23, 2010, Belarus placed 7 billion-Russian ruble bond issue in Russia.

In 2011, Belarus planned to offer Eurobond in Europe worth USD 1 billion. In 2010, Belarus placed USD 1 billion worth of Eurobond in Europe.
