OREANDA-NEWS. January 28, 2011.  Power Machines and RusHydro signed a contract to manufacture and supply machinery for the three hydraulic units of Baksanskaya HPP, part of RusHydro’s branch in Kabardino-Balkaria.

Under the contract, Power Machines company is to manufacture and supply hydraulic turbines, hydraulic generators, hydrogenerator excitation systems, and automated control systems for Baksanskaya HPP’s three hydraulic units, and is also to provide installation supervision services. The deliveries and works stipulated by this contract are supposed to be completed in February 2012.

Upgrade and modernization activities are expected to significantly improve equipment performance and enhance its reliability, while also enabling an increase of Baksanskaya HPP’s rated capacity from 25 MW to 27 MW.

The need to replace machinery is attributed to consequences of the attack on July 21, 2010 when damage was caused to the HPP’s main generating and auxiliary equipment. The equipment is being replaced under the plant’s Upgrade and Retool Program for 2010–2011.
