OREANDA-NEWS. February 01, 2011. This decision was taken following the meeting with crops exporters carried out at the Ministry of Agriculture to discuss the possibility of such measures to ensure the country’s food security, to prevent a possible wheat crisis in the local market and rise in prices for bread.

The sitting’s participants agreed to carry out a thorough analysis of the situation in the local crops market, wheat stocks availability in the country first. It should be noted that crops exporters oppose introduction of the ban, urging the authorities to observe market economy principles and not to try to prevent economic agents from trading with wheat and selling it to foreign partners on the basis of the signed contracts.

They claim the wheat stocks available in Moldova are enough for providing the country with the bread. In their opinion, the rise in prices for bread is due to the increase in the fuel’s cost.
