OREANDA-NEWS. February 08, 2011. It was said by the WB Regional Director for Belarus, Ukraine and Moldova Martin Raiser at the meeting in Chisinau with Prime Minister of Moldova Vladimir Filat.

He said USD 20 million are planned to be allocated in the framework of the Electronic Government project, USD 37 million – for implementation of projects in the area of social protection. Martin Raiser emphasized that the WB would continue supporting the Moldovan Government in implementation of projects and promotion of reforms in the area of social assistance, education, justice, infrastructure.

At the same time, he came out in favor of initiation of new projects to contribute to enhancement of the investment climate and to ensure private sector development in Moldova. Martin Raiser assured that the WB would support these initiatives. He said the Bank’s last report on implementation of the strategy of partnership with Moldova reads about an impressive progress for the last 1-1.5 years despite difficult conditions caused by an uneasy political situation in the country.

The current portfolio of assistance to Moldova from the WB totals USD 400 million, stipulated for implementation of 20 projects in different areas.
