OREANDA-NEWS. February 09, 2011. Belarus’ population was at 9,481,100 people as of January 1, 2011, a decline by 18,900 from January 2010, the National Statistics Committee said in a report.

In January-December 2010, 108,123 babies were born in Belarus, a decline by 1,140 from in January-December 2009, and 137,305 people died, down by 2,208 year-on-year.

Natural population loss was at 29,182 in January-December 2010 in year-on-year terms, up from 25,834 in January-December 2009.

Birth rate decreased to 11.4 per 1,000 in January-December 2010 from 11.5 in January-December 2009. Death rate rose to 14.5 per 1,000 from 14.2. Death rate among children under one year of age was at 4 per 1,000, down from 4.7.

According to the committee, net migration inflow in the period amounted to 10,303 people.

The number of registered marriages decreased 1.5% in January-December 2010 to 77,640 and the number of divorces went up 4.6% to 36,655. There were 472 divorces per 1,000 marriages in January-December 2010, compared with 445 in January-December 2010.
