OREANDA-NEWS. February 09, 2011. OJSC Belaruskali in 2010 completed a trial delivery of potash amounting to 3,000 tonnes via Ukraine’s Yuzhny seaport, an official in the administration of the company stated.

“The company has tested a new route to deliver exports in order to enhance diversification and streamline logistics,” he said.

Belarus can transships potash via Ukrainian Yuzhny and Nikotera ports and has sufficient room for maneuver when supplying potash to Asia.

Supplies via Yuzhny are about USD 2-per-tonne more expensive, however, freight traffic is enough to derive profits, the official said.

Belaruskali transshipped 1 million tonnes of potash fertilizers via Nikotera terminal in Ukraine’s Nikolayev seaport in January-December 2010.

The Belarusian maker started transshipping potash via Nikotera in 2009.

Previously, it used the potash terminal at Nikolayev seaport, which is now a grain terminal.

In 2010, Belarusian potash exports reached 6.8 million tonnes.

OJSC Belaruskali is one of the largest potash makers in the world, employing about 20,000 personnel. The company plans to increase its output to 9.65 million tonnes annually by 2015. Belaruskali accounts for 15.3% of the world potash production. The state controls 100% in the producer.
