OREANDA-NEWS. February 11, 2011. A Scientific Council session was held at Koks to discuss plans for renovating coke-oven batteries Nos. 4 and 5, as well as prospects for creating a new coke-oven battery with furnaces without chemical by-product recovery.

According to Sergey Diakov, Managing Director of Koks, plans to renovate coke-oven batteries Nos. 4 and 5 are all but complete and ready for expert government analysis. Company experts have conducted calculations that show that following the renovation the batteries will significantly reduce both gross and per-unit emissions of harmful substances. Koks has already stopped emitting wastewater and is pursuing a program to continuously reduce atmospheric emissions.

One prospect for Koks' further development is the construction of new batteries including furnaces without chemical by-product recovery. These batteries are already in use in the USA, China and Australia, due to their safety and environmental soundness. At the session, factory specialists were asked to prepare to hold a tender for the planning and construction of such a battery. “This is the factory's future,” noted Sergey Diakov.
