OREANDA-NEWS. March 03, 2011. Construction of a new highway system is underway in the Imeretinskaya Lowland where the majority of the coastal cluster Olympic venues is situated. The highway network with total length of almost 40 km will cover the Olympic Park and adjacent areas.

The construction program envisages construction of a set of buildings: roads, interchanges, supporting walls, stops, pavements, water drainage, external illumination and installation of an automatic traffic control system. The new transport infrastructure facility is to connect the Olympic venues with hotels and residential settlements. New streets will appear and some of the existing ones will be widened during road construction in the Imeretinskaya Lowland. The carriage way area will total to 500,000 sq.m.

Work is underway in the sections of total length of 10 km. The foundation for the road surface is being prepared. 135 units of special equipment and more than 260 workers and specialists are engaged at the facility. Road construction began in October 2010 and is to be finished in February 2012. The responsible project contractor is SC Olimpstroy.
