OREANDA-NEWS. March 9, 2011. Recognising the need to curb wastage of energy, Tata Power, India’s largest integrated private power utility, took the lead and started a unique initiative of energy conservation through school children, called Tata Power Energy Club. Till date, through this novel initiative 2.5 million citizens have been sensitised across the nation and 2.8 million units of electricity have been saved till date.
In 2010-11, Tata Power Energy Club sensitised over 2.5 lakh children across 285 schools nationwide; these children have further reached out to more than eight lakh people, thereby taking the total sensitisation figure to over one million citizens. The club members have collectively saved  1,822,560 units of electricity.

The club is proud to have more than 19,095 Energy Champions and 32,257 Energy Ambassadors this year, who are spreading the mantra of energy conservation among people across various age and income groups. Today, there are 154 mini Tata Power Energy Clubs across Mumbai, which are run by the school children with the aim to stop wastage of electricity. The energy-saving programme has been taken up as project work in various Mumbai schools. As a part of this programme, 500 school children also conducted mass sensitisation sessions during Ganesh Utsav and street plays in prominent locations and housing societies across Mumbai city.
Tata Power Energy Club is active in  schools in nine prominent cities of India viz. Mumbai, New Delhi, Ahmedabad, Pune, Jamshedpur, Lonavla, Belgaum, Bengaluru and Kolkata. It aims at creating awareness among school students who in turn sensitise their families and neighbourhood to curtail energy wastage through dynamic and innovative measures.
