OREANDA-NEWS. March 21, 2011. The Customs Union should become a global economic power, Prime Minister of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich said at the session of the EurAsEC Interstate Council (Customs Union supreme body).

“I am confident that the Customs Union will become a world center and will be very attractive for other states,” the Premier stressed.

In his words, the agreements that have already been signed in the Customs Union together with the documents that are to be ratified soon will form a necessary legal framework to make the integration processes and the results of the work of the Customs Union attractive for the states that are to join “Troika” in the future.

Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan need more consolidation in conducting the macroeconomic policy, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Karim Masimov said in a session of the EurAsEC Interstate Council (Customs Union supreme body) in Minsk.

“Today’s economic situation in the world, the consequences that will no doubt affect the global economy in the wake of the tragic events in Japan, North Africa and Middle East will demand greater consolidation in pursuing the macroeconomic policy and further advancement of the national economies,” the Kazakhstan Premier stressed.

Karim Masimov added that in 2009-2010 the preparation of the documents for the Customs Union and the Single Economic Space was in full swing. “I believe that the agreements we have reached during the first year of the Customs Union operation demonstrates the efficiency of this integration association,” he said. The trade between the Customs Union member states has been steadily increasing. According to Karim Masimov, the potential the Customs Union and the Single Economic Space have allows responding adequately to any challenges of the present time.
