RTS Released Stock Market Weekly Trading Results: March 14-18
OREANDA-NEWS. March 23, 2011. Over the week of March 14-18, 2011, the RTS Index went up by 1.73% to reach 1,962.92 points (1,929.59 points as of March 11, 2011). Most of the positive impact on the RTS Index dynamics was related to the growing prices for ordinary shares of Gazprom (GAZPS) (plus 24.13 points) followed by ordinary shares of OJSC "MMC "NORILSK NICKEL" (GMKNS) (plus 9.71 points) and Sberbank (SBERS) (plus 7.60 points).
The RTS Standard Index, the blue chips index, gained 1.75% to reach 11,929.01 points (11,724.27 points as of March 11, 2011). The "second-tier" stock index – RTS-2 experienced an increase of 1.77% closing at 2,307.28 points (2,307.28 points as of March 11, 2011).
Last week’s growth on the stock market was accompanied by an increase of volatility levels when the Russian Volatility Index RTSVX went up by 5.39% to reach 26.69 points (25.33 points as of March 11, 2011).
Last week all the key economy sectors represented on the Russian stock market demonstrated a negative trend. The largest decline was reported by the power sector, with the RTS Electric Utilities Index shedding 3.37%. A significant decrease was also shown by the consumer & retail sector, with the RTS Consumer & Retail Index going down by 2.58%. The largest increase was in the metallurgy sector when the RTS Metals & Mining Index went up 1.40%. The oil & gas sector also showed an upturn with the RTS Oil & Gas Index adding 1.22%.
The regional index, RTS Siberia Index, added 0.60%.
Last week the US dollar appreciated by 1.05% against the ruble to reach 28.74 rubles per US dollar (28.44 rubles as of March 11, 2011).

The total securities trading volume on RTS for the week of March 14-18, 2011 equaled USD11.82 billion (338.97 billion rubles*), including all types of trades. The trading volume on RTS Standard totaled USD2,609.61 million.
The week's top sellers were ordinary shares of Sberbank with a turnover of USD878.76 million followed by Gazprom ordinary shares (GAZP) with a turnover of USD837.33 million and ordinary shares of JSC “LUKOIL” (LKOH) with a turnover of USD346.68 million. The share of each security in the total trading volume made up 32.93%, 31.38% and 12.99% respectively.
The week's top gainers were RDR representing rights on ordinary registered shares of United Company RUSAL Plc (RUAL) that went up by 9.87% to USD16.7 followed by ordinary shares of JSC "OGK-4" (OGKD) – by 9.60% to USD0.097 and JSC Raspadskaya (RASP) – by 6.01% to reach USD7.05.
The week's top losers were ordinary shares of MASHINOSTROITELNY ZAVOD (MASZ) that fell 19.80% to reach USD200.5 followed by OAO "Pharmacy Chain 36.6" (APTK) that lost 13.04% to reach USD3 and JSC "LENENERGO" that lost 12.22% to reach USD0.79.
