OREANDA-NEWS. March 25, 2011. Contract law is the main theme of the two-day workshop held in the Turkmen capital. It was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the Turkmen National Institute for Democracy and Human Rights under President of Turkmenistan jointly with the regional project of the German International Cooperation (GIZ).

The forum organized under the GIZ Regional Project “Support of Legal and Judicial Reform in Central Asia” brought together specialists of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Turkmen National Institute for Democracy and Human Rights under the President of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Justice, the Prosecutor General's Office, judicial agencies and the Bar Association of Turkmenistan. Well-known experts in civil law had been invited from Germany to participate in the workshop as international consultants.

The agenda focused on the critical issues related to development of contract law in Turkmenistan. It was noted that that a key aspect of the legal reform launched on the initiative of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov was the implementation of universally recognized norms and standards in the national legislation. In this context considerable significance should be attached to the study of best international law enforcement practices.

The international experts made the presentations of the general provisions on obligations and the trends on the harmonization of contract law in the world, in particular some issues related to the procedures for formation and termination of contracts, etc.

Focusing on the importance of partnership in the legal sector between Turkmen lawyers and international organisations and foreign experts, including the GIZ regional project, the meeting participants called for further development of fruitful contacts.
