OREANDA-NEWS. March 28, 2011. The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd., announced today that two of its group companies obtained ISO 14001 certification, an international standard for environmental management systems, in February 2011. The two are Suzhou Yokohama Tire Co., Ltd., a tire production and sales company in China, and Yokohama Tyre Vietnam Inc. (YTVI), a tire production and sales company in Vietnam.

Since it commenced business operations in August 2008, Suzhou Yokohama Tire Co., Ltd., with 422 employees (as of end of December 2010), has produced and sold steel radial tires for trucks and buses for the Chinese market. With 281 employees (as of end of December 2010), YTVI has, since its inauguration in January 2008, produced bias tires for motorcycles and light trucks for the Vietnamese market, and tires for industrial vehicles and emergency tires, etc., for the Japanese market.

In April 2006, Yokohama Rubber released its Medium-Term Management Plan: Grand Design 100 (GD100), including a basic policy of asserting world-class strengths in technologies for protecting the environment. With ISO 14001 at the heart of business operations, domestic and overseas group companies endeavor to maintain uniform-quality, high-level environmental management, and all production sites have been working to acquire ISO 14001 certification. Domestically, a total of 15 production bases - ten Yokohama Rubber’s plants and five Yokohama Rubber Group companies – have already done so. Overseas, including the two companies this time, a total of 13 group company’s production sites have been certified.
