OREANDA-NEWS. March 28, 2011. By the executive order of UTair Aviation General Director Andrey Martirosov, one of the carrier’s Tupolev-154M aircraft has been named after Nikolay Konstantinovich Baibakov, distinguished Soviet statesman, Hero of Socialist Labor, and Lenin Prize laureate.

Head of the People’s Commissariat for Petroleum Industry from 1944 to 1946, N.K. Baybakov also served as Head of the USSR Ministry of Oil and Gas Industry in Southern and Western territories, the USSR Ministry of Oil and Gas Industry. From 1965 to 1985 he was Head of the State Planning Committee of the USSR and the Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the USSR.

Nikolay Baibakov made a deep personal contribution to the economical and social development of the Tyumen Region. He was directly involved in the establishment of the Russian General Fuel and Energy Sector within which the Russian civil aviation infrastructure developed dynamically. A record of the naming of the Tupolev-154M aircraft, registration number RA-85056, after N.K. Baibakov has been entered in the National Civil Aircraft Registry.

The flagship aircraft of UTair Aviation’s fleet bear the names of distinguished Soviet and Russian statesmen who made significant contributions to the development of natural resources in the Tyumen Region and to the development of civil aviation, including Victor Muravlenko, Vasiliy Bakhilov, Аntonina Grigoryeva, Petr Panov, Roman Marchenko, Konstantin Luzhnezky, Vladimir Kuleshov, Farman Salmanov, and Boris Scherbina.
