OREANDA-NEWS. April 04, 2011. Export of Ukrainian goods to Poland increased by 47% in last year. The positive trend has continued. This the Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Chairman of Ukrainian part of Ukrainian-Polish Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation Vasyl Marmazov said during the international conference "Ukrainian-Polish border: the chance or barrier of socio-economic development".

On the conference were discussed a wide range of current issues of border cooperation, operation and development of border infrastructure, and also was noted the positive dynamics of trade cooperation.

As Vasyl Marmazov said during the conference, for years 1999-2008 the export of Ukrainian goods and services to Poland increased by 7 times, imports - more than 16 times. Although the crisis year of 2009 the volume of trade fell in twice, in 2010 there was a marked recovery of bilateral trade: turnover has increased by 37% and exceeded 4.5 billion dollars, export of Ukrainian goods has increased by 47%, imports of Polish goods to Ukraine - by 28%.

The Deputy Minister said that last year only the physical volume of trade between Ukraine and Poland amounted to 10.5 million tons (9.4 million tons - Ukrainian exports and 1.1 million tons - in Polish). At the same time, through the Ukrainian-Polish border has moved much of the trade turnover between Ukraine and other countries of Europe, between Europe and the CIS and Asia.

Meanwhile Basyl Marmazov stressed that in the current year are expected even more growth in trade. According to him, in January 2011, exports of Ukrainian goods to Poland increased by 2.1 times, imports - by 26%. The January Ukrainian exports to Poland - more than USD180 million. - a record in the history of cooperation between the two countries. Considerable positive impact on the dynamics of further economic cooperation between Ukraine and Poland will have a signing of the agreement on a comprehensive and deep free trade area Ukraine-EU that scheduled to be held in the second half of 2011, during the presidency of Poland in the EU.

"Border infrastructure is becoming increasingly the bottleneck in the way of Ukrainian-Polish cooperation and modernization of existing border crossing points and new construction significantly behind the dynamic development of trade cooperation", - he said.

The issue of development border crossing points, border and transport infrastructure in Ukrainian-Polish border is one of priority for the Government of Ukraine as in terms of preparation for the finals of European Football Championship in 2012, as in the context of creating conditions for developing economic cooperation with European countries. These issues are regularly discussed in the meetings of the Intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation and, especially, the Intergovernmental Coordination Council for interregional cooperation.
