OREANDA-NEWS. April 04, 2011. NEC Corporation (NEC) will be present at the Femtocells Asia 2011, held at Marriot Hotel in Singapore from April 4-5, 2011, where NEC will showcase its latest Femtocell Access Point and will demonstrate femtocell operations by RAN-GW. In addition, Baldev Gill, Business Development Director at NEC Europe will present a paper on 'Femtocell Deployment Case Study' outlining the opportunities, additional revenue streams and new applications and services that Femtocells bring to mobile operators.

"With 13 commercial femtocell contracts and 26 trials with operators around the world, NEC is pioneering the adoption of the technology. The number of 3G connected subscribers is rapidly increasing and around 70 per cent of these services are used indoors. However, issues remain with 3G radio penetrating buildings, leaving customers with dropped calls and slow, or no Internet connection indoors. The user experience is damaged by these network coverage holes." said Atsushi Kuroda, General Manager, International Sales and Operations Business Unit, NEC Corporation. "NEC's femtocell offers mobile operators an enhanced, cost-effective 3G mobile network that enables them to provide premium mobile services and an excellent consumer experience."

NEC's accomplishments in the femtocell field include provision of the world's first femtocell IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) for SOFTBANK MOBILE Corp. in Japan, the deployment of France's first commercial femtocell services through SFR and in Norway through Network Norway. Furthermore, NEC was selected by Russia's MegaFon to build a high-capacity indoor mobile network in Volga, Ural and Far-East regions of Russia.

NEC is a board member of the Femtocell Forum, an industry association that was established in July 2007. NEC's activities and groundbreaking work in the femtocell field are well recognized through honors that include the Femtocell Forum's 2009 award for "Progress in Commercial Deployment" and the 2010 award for "Femtocell Network Design and Technology Innovation." Furthermore, NEC won Telecom Asia Magazine's "2010 Femtocell Vendor of the Year" Award, an award intended to recognize vendors and suppliers of innovative products that cultivate new markets in the Asia Pacific rim.
