OREANDA-NEWS. April 5, 2011. Enel OGK-5 successfully carried out the first firing tests of the new combined cycle gas turbines (CCGT) units at its two power plants - Sredneuralskaya GRES and Nevinnomysskaya GRES.

Commenting on the test firings, general director of OJSC  “Enel OGK-5” Enrico Viale stated: "We are happy with this important progress, that shows the advanced stage of execution of both projects. We are working to complete all commissioning works in order to achieve commercial operation of both units as soon as possible. The launch of  CCGTs at Sredneuralskaya and Nevinnomysskaya GRES will increase the installed capacity of our plants as well as improve the reliability of power systems in the regions where we operate”.

The efficiency of two new units is about 58%. The technology used in the construction of the new CCGT allows to significantly improve fuel consumption as well as reduce  emissions into the atmosphere.

The construction of the CCGTs at Sredneuralskaya GRES and Nevinnomysskaya GRES, with a gross installed capacity of 410 MW each, started at the end of 2008. Both projects required an overall investment of, approximately, 750 million euros. The CCGT unit at Nevinnomysskaya GRES  is expected to become operational by  May 2011 and the one at Sredneuralskaya GRES is expected to become operational by July 2011.
