OREANDA-NEWS. April 15, 2011. World Economic Forum (WEF) released its next Global Information Technology Report with a record coverage of 138 economics worldwide in 2010-2011.

Sweden, Singapore, Finland, Switzerland and USA have topped the first five positions of the ranking, only Finland being a newcomer in the list - in 2009-2010 it was ranked in 6th position. The next set of five was formed by Taiwan (jumped up by 5 points), Denmark (slipped from previous year 3rd position), Canada (down from 7th the previous year), Norway (in 10th position previous year) and South Korea (jumped up by 5 points).

Russia this time was ranked in 77th position that’s up 3 points from the previous year (80th position). A lack of focus on ICT tools in increasing the efficiency of government management was named as the main reason for concern. In government sector the service rendering processes are not reaping the benefits offer by new technologies. There are several reasons that hinder the ITC development in Russia, including poor quality of market (118th) and regulatory environment (111th), as well as poor marks for government and business readiness and usage of ITC.

If we turn back to the ICT network readiness index we would see that Russia considerably falls back from other BRIC countries — Brazil, India and China which occupy 56, 48 and 36 positions respectively and that give us a cause to forecast the growth of government orders in IT sphere.
