On the updated information of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fish and Hunting Industry of the Republic of Karelia as of April 1, 2011, total catch of fish by enterprises of the fish branch of Karelia has made 18 426 tons, that is 3305 tons or 22% more than in the corresponding period of the last year.

In the first three months of the current year ocean fishing was carried out by 25 enterprises registered in territory of the Republic of Karelia that were allocated quotas for harvesting (catch) of water bioresources by the Federal Fishery Agency.

Quotas for 2011 have been allocated for fish-harvesting enterprises of the Republic of Karelia for industrial and coastal fishery in the Barents Sea to catch cods and haddocks in the volume of 5170 tons, 8252 tons of capelins and 33,43 tons of Kamchatka crabs.

On the updated information of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fish and Hunting Industry of the Republic of Karelia, general catch of cods and haddocks has made 8344 tons, that is 715 tons or 9% more than in the corresponding period of 2010. The volume of ground fish harvestiong in the Barents Sea by all enterprises of Karelia has made 8679 tons. Fishermen of Karelia have taken up the capelin catch quota in the first three months successfully. The catch has made 7673 tons, that is 3400 tons or 79% more than in the first three months of 2010. The following catch quotas were assigned in 2011 to fish harvesting enterprises of the Republic of Karelia: 1083 tons of mackerel, 273 tons of blue whiting in the economic zone of Faeroe Islands; 12819 tons of Atlantic herring, 51 tons of blue whiting in the Norwegian economic zone 121 tons of halibut in conventional area of Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization (NAFO), 82 tons of halibut in the zone of Greenland, 2892 tons of mackerel, 1316 tons of blue whiting in conventional area North East Atlantic Fisheries Commission (NEAFC).

Fish harvesting enterprises of the Republic of Karelia have cought 1814 tons of Atlantic herring in the Norwegian economic zone, 10 tons of blue whiting in the Faeroe economic zone and and in 15 tons of it NEAFC. Total catch of fish in the White Sea has made 179 tons, that is 25 tons more, than in the first three months of 2010. The catch of navaga has made 174 tons, the catch of herring is 5 tons.

In fresh-water reservoirs in the first three months of 2011 it has been caught 52 tons of fish, 3 times more than in the corresponding period of 2010.

The volume of production of fish and advanced and preserved fish products in three months of 2011 has made 16006 tons, that exceeds the level of fish production in the corresponding period of 2010 by 2180 tons, or 15.8%. In comparison with the corresponding period of 2010 Karelian Seafoods, Ltd. and Sever-Trast, Ltd. have increased volumes of production; besides, within three months 2011 fish harvesting was performed by more fish harvesting organizations, than in the same period of 2010, that has also promoted growth of fish production.

Organizations of fish industry complex of the Republic of Karelia have produced 11243,6 tons of frozen fish (without herring) that makes 143.3% to production in the corresponding period of 2010. In 3 months of 2011 organizations have produced 103,400 standard cans of canned cod liver, 180,5 tons of fish meal of thin and coarse grinding.

The volume of own-produced shipped goods, works performed, services rendered using own resources has made (without the VAT, excises and other similar payments) regarding the fishery and fish breeding form of economic activities with the period from January to March, 2011 has made 690,3 million rbl., that is 62,9 million rbl. or 10.0% more than in the corresponding period of 2010.
