Moldova’s Prime Minister said it, commenting upon the ban lifting possibility. He said the IMF Technical Mission’s experts are currently working in the country.

The IMF Assessment Mission is expected to arrive in late April. Vladimir Filat emphasized that a thorough study of the situation in the grain market would be carried out, and so far it cannot be said what the decision of the Government will be. The Prime Minister stressed that the Cabinet’s previous decision to ban wheat export was grounded and it enabled to stabilize the situation in the market and to avoid rise in prices for bread.

The Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vasilii Bumaco told journalists that representatives of the IMF Technical Mission together with Moldovan specialists are evaluating grain stocks to ensure the country’s food security. According to him, Moldova needs 69 thousand tones of wheat until the new harvest and there are 72 thousand tones now available. Flour is also imported but it is worse than flour made of Moldovan wheat. Vasilii Bumacov said the wheat export ban cannot be lifted right away: thorough calculations need to be carried out first.
