OREANDA-NEWS. April 28, 2011. Foundry No. 3 of the iron casting department of KAMAZ-Metallurgy OJSC has received the status of a standard shop and a certificate of conformity.

A ceremonial red ribbon at the entrance to the shop was cut by machine shop manager Alexander Shevrikuko and head of Production System of KAMAZ-Metallurgy OJSC Irina Krokhmal. Foundry 3 which manufactures cores for iron castings became the first standard shop in OJSC KAMAZ.

The concept of "a standard shop" (or "a standard section") arose at KAMAZ in 2008 when the company introduced its Production System (PSK). It means that all sections of this shop are standard, which is stated in certificates of compliance, and, therefore, its workers satisfy all requirements of the standard section and use Lean methods and principles in their work.

All four sections of Foundry 3 of the cast iron department are standard for the present. The section for production of cores for cylinder blocks of KAMAZ vehicles was the first to become standard (in 2009). In 2010, certificates were given to two other sections of the shop. And, finally, the last fourth section has become "benchmark".

Of course, this title is not just a certificate in an expensive frame. It means that there were certain improvements in the shop. Working according to the PSK, the workers of Foundry 3 achieved good results having improved their working conditions, productivity and quality. For example, for 2009-2010, they introduced a number of Kaizen ideas and implemented five Kaizen projects (kaizen means “improvement” or “change for the better”) and reduced losses due to rejects by 3.5 million rubles...
