OREANDA-NEWS. May 13, 2011. As of today, OJSC Belaruskali is not interested in exporting its products via Latvian Ventspils seaport, an official in the administration of the company stated.

“This is because of economic conditions. Compared to the Klaipeda port, in Lithuania, supplies appear to be USD 10-12 per tonne more expensive.”

Belaruskali used to report to transport via the Latvia port during periods of peak demand in order not to default on its contracts. Belaruskali traditionally transships Panamax type vessels bound for China via Ventspils.

Although Belaruskali and Latvia Kalija parks inked an agreement on transshipment of potash fertilizers in late 2009, there were no fixed annual volumes.

In 2009, Belaruskali did not have its fertilizers transshipped via Ventspils.
