OREANDA-NEWS. May 16, 2011. Vladimir Strzhalkovsky, General Director and Chairman of the Management Board, OJSC MMC Norilsk Nickel (hereinafter referred to as MMC Norilsk Nickel or the Company), had a business meeting with Suleiman Mohamed Hidayat, Minister of Industry of Indonesia, and Giryavanom Gita, Chairman of the National Coordinating Committee on Investment, reported the press-centre of Norilsk Nickel.

During the meeting the parties discussed business projects of MMC Norilsk Nickel in Indonesia and ore deposits development in the country. The negotiations resulted in Memorandum of Understanding between MMC Norilsk Nickel and Indonesian Company Nusantara Smelting Corporation. The goal of the Memorandum is to establish partnership in construction of copper smelting and processing facility with total annual production capacity of up to 400 thousand tons of copper, as well as in development of copper-nickel ore deposits in Indonesia.

Today, Mr. Strzhalkovsky also met with Luhut Panjaitan, co-Chairman of the Russia-Indonesia Business Council. The parties discussed various issues concerning bilateral trade and business and cooperation. Furthermore, the Indonesian representatives expressed their interest in purchasing Russian equipment for Indonesian mining companies.

Indonesian delegation expressed high appreciation of the Company’s intent to proceed with business projects in Indonesia and voiced its readiness to provide MMC Norilsk Nickel with the necessary support. Official representatives of Indonesia particularly noted MMC Norilsk Nickel’s vast experience in mining and metallurgy.
