OREANDA-NEWS. May 31, 2011. The press conference on the measures against the illegal export of agricultural production was held at the National Press Center of Uzbekistan in Tashkent.

The event, organized by the State Customs Committee of Uzbekistan, was attended by members of local and foreign media.

Deputy Chairman of Uzbek State Customs Committee G. Shukurov and others noted that reforms conducted under the leadership of President Islam Karimov in the customs structure, small business and entrepreneurship, agriculture, were yielding good results. Extensive work is done to ensure the sustainable needs of the population with food products, the saturation of the domestic market with agricultural products. As a result of consistent measures to reform agriculture, qualitative structural changes took place last year, contributing to the volume of agricultural production. It rose by 6.8% compared with year 2009.

Agricultural production, grown in Uzbekistan, is in high demand not only domestically, but in foreign markets. The resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers on the rational use of fruit, melon and grape resources from 8 May of 2008 established the current procedure for export of agricultural products.

However, some entrepreneurs try to export agricultural production illegally, bypassing the established order for personal gain.

Customs authorities of Uzbekistan promptly prevent such illegal activities. Particularly, during the past period of the running year, over 909 tons of agricultural products of illegal export were found and confiscated.
