OREANDA-NEWS. June 1, 2011. Belarus will increase retirement pensions on June 1, 2011, Deputy Economy Minister Andrei Tur told a news briefing.

He was commenting on measures the state would take to support the population amid the financial crisis.

He did not say how much the pensions would be raised.

The state will also continue paying compensations to public sector employees. “When we speak about compensations rather than changes in the first grade wage rate, than high-paid and low-paid workers get the same compensation,” he said.

He said social support for the least paid categories would require 230-250 billion Belarusian rubles (Br).

Tur also noted the importance of self-employment of the workers that will have to go on leave without pay or work shorter weeks.
