OREANDA-NEWS. June 1, 2011. Kazakhstan eyes privatization of Belarusian mechanical engineering, chemical, oil and agricultural companies, Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev said during negotiations with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko in Astana on Tuesday.

Belarus is a country with a well-developed processing sector, whereas Kazakhstan is a country developing mineral deposits, which is why the two economies are complementary, he said.

“We are interested in mechanical engineering, chemical sector, petrochemical industry and agribusiness. I believe Kazakh companies will be engaged in privatization in Belarus,” the president of Kazakhstan said.

Lukashenko said the two countries had agreed to establish new joint ventures not only in Kazakhstan, but also in Belarus. Specifically, Kazakhstan is interested in high-tech companies located in Belarus, including Integral.

“We are also interested in foreign investments in this company. I like this proposal, and we will soon make a decision on this enterprise and some other companies,” Lukashenko was quoted as saying.
