OREANDA-NEWS. June 6, 2011. The burden of living shall no more intimidate the physically challenged people of the villages under NALCO’s Utkal-E Coal Project in Angul district of Odisha. They see a ray of hope to ameliorate their lot in a camp organized by NALCO Foundation, with the help of Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) and Vocational Rehabilitation Centre for Handicapped (VRC) – both Govt. of India institutions – in Nandichhod village.

Altogether 69 physically-challenged from Nandichhod, Gopinathpur, Korada and Kosala attended the identification camp, out of which as many as 19 people were identified for free disability equipment like tri-cycles, wheel chairs, crutches and hearing aids. 35 people were identified for different vocational training and 23 persons were referred for physiotherapy and surgery.

Shri Ashok Sahoo, GM (H&A), NALCO, Shri R.N. Mishra, Marketing Officer, ALIMCO, Shri Ram Kishore Sharma, Rehabilitation Officer, VRC and Shri P.R. Das, Social Worker, VRC were present at the camp, which was coordinated by Ms. Shabana Parween, Project Manager, NALCO Foundation.
