OREANDA-NEWS. June 07, 2011. Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov declared on Thursday.

 “The Russian experts have carried out very rigid stresses-tests for all Russian NPPs. We will have the same approach to the safety level of all of those NPPs we build abroad with our foreign partners. Questions of providing safety in full are also relating to the project of the NPP construction in Belene”, — he said following the negotiations with his Bulgarian counterpart Nikolay Mladenov.

 “We agreed today, that the experts should be dealing with this question, and there should be no politicization of this issue”, — Lavrov underlined.

 In his turn the Head the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria has said, that the NPP building in Belene “requires specialized examination”. “The Russian experts are now working in Bulgaria”, — he has added.

 Mladenov also agreed with Lavrov, that building of this NPP cannot “be put in political framework”. “It would distort the true aspect of the issue connected with safety, financing of the project and its structurization”, — Bulgarian Minister summarized. 

 Bulgarian NEK and Russian “Atomstroyexport” (Rosatom is the principal shareholder with 78,5 % of the shares) have signed the memorandum of understanding on March 31, 2011 and the Supplement to the Agreement on the “Belene” NPP as of November 29, 2006. The parties have undertaken to coordinate and initial the documents making the EPC-contract by June 1. The partners are also plan to examine the safety issues of the power units of the Bulgarian NPP by June 30.
