OREANDA-NEWS. June 9, 2011. On 3 June this year, the National Lithuanian Electricity Association, the founders of which are such companies of the Lithuanian energy sector as “Lietuvos energija”, LESTO, LITGRID and “Technologiju ir inovaciju centras”, was established. The aim of the association is to form a common position of the energy sector and represent its members’ interests at the national as well as the international level. One of the main functions of the National Lithuanian Electricity Association is to ensure a proper representation of the energy sector in the European electricity energy association “Eurelectric”.

The association will unite energy production, transmission, distribution and supply companies and their subsidiaries operating in Lithuania. It will be open for other companies involved in the above activities. The latter will be accepted to the association by the General Members’ Meeting. Activities of the association will be based on the principle of equality and organised from the inner funds of the members.

“We will act as mediators and represent our members in state institutions, public and international organisations. Particular attention will be paid to cooperation with “Eurelectric”, since the current integration into the European energy system is one of the key objectives ensuring national energy stability,” President of the Association and Director General of “Lietuvos energija” Dalius Misiunas claims.

Work groups of specialists from companies of the sector will be established for dealing with nationally significant issues in the field of energy sector. Companies’ specialists will also participate in international expert work groups. According to the President of the Association, the establishment of the Association will help companies of the energy sector participate in international activities and influence common decisions within the sector at the European level.

European electricity association “Eurelectric” represents interests of energy companies in Europe. In the European Union, “Eurelectric” performs its representation functions at the state level in order to influence political decisions on electricity issues in EU institutions.

“Eurelectric” members represent their country via associations of the national energy sector. At present, the association unites 33 full members from 27 EU Member States. The Association launched its activities in December 1999 after two associations UNIPEDE and “Eurelectric” merged. For more information, please visit www2.eurelectric.org.

AB “Lietuvos energija” is the major producer of electricity in Lithuania. Since 1 December 2010, the company has been implementing energy production, supply, import, and export and trade activities.

AB LESTO is the Lithuanian Distribution Network Operator. The company was established after the reorganisation of distribution network companies Rytu skirstomieji tinklai (RST) and stock company “VST” by merging the said companies. Since 1 January 2011, LESTO has been providing services to more than 1.5 million energy consumers across the country.

Litgrid AB is a Lithuanian electricity transmission system operator managing energy flows in Lithuania and maintaining the stable work of the national electricity system. “Litgrid” is responsible for ongoing strategic electricity links with Swedish and Polish projects, development of the Lithuanian electricity market and integration of the energy system into the continental European electricity transmission system.

UAB “Technologiju ir inovaciju centras” (TIC) provides services related to innovations and novelties, knowledge and competence management, information technologies, applied systems and management thereof as well as other services to energy companies.
