OREANDA-NEWS. June 09, 2011. To draw attention to vehicles running on compressed natural gas (methane) was the main objective of the "Blue Corridor 2011" rally which started in Prague a few days ago and finished in the city of Greifswald (Germany) yesterday.

The leading idea of the auto race was to promote vehicles with gas engines. Europe’s increasingly stringent emissions targets force automakers to look for alternative fuels as opposed to traditional ones – gasoline and diesel. The use of gas as an energy source for vehicles opens up new prospects for manufacturers of commercial vehicles. With the introduction of new European standards, many models of heavy equipment are forbidden to operate on the territory of settlements. Cars running on methane are able to solve this problem.

The Russian Kamaz-4308 medium-tonnage truck participated in the rally. KAMAZ has for a long time been developing and updating models of trucks running on methane. The auto race showed that the company`s expertise in the manufacture of gas engines for commercial vehicles is in no way inferior to the European practice. And the issue of provision of industrial economic sectors with special equipment running on gas in our country is as topical as in the European Union. We have many common interests with our European partners in this sphere. To date, Russia’s KAMAZ CNG vehicles can compete with the best brands of the European market.
