OREANDA-NEWS. June 10, 2011. “Great attention is given to the environmental aspects both during the construction phase and during operation of Oil Refining and Petrochemical Complex” – stated RT Minister for the Environment and Natural Resources Artem Sidorov during his visit to OJSC TANECO on June 7, 2011.

During the visit of Oil Refining and Petrochemical Complex 1st Start-up and offsite facilities Mr. Sidorov was well informed about Russian and International Environmental Technologies applied at the implementation of the Project.

Mr. Sidorov noted that OJSC TANECO Treatment Facility, where traditional and state-of-the-art methods of water treatment are used, is an obvious example of the natural resources rational utilization. After deep treatment waste water (up to 80% of the total volume) will be returned to the process for feeding recirculation and fire water supply systems. Mechanical, physical and chemical, coal treatment methods and waste water disinfection unit are currently being operated. Commissioning operations are being performed in the sewage sludge dehydration unit. Installation of the Process equipment for the Biological Treating Unit is being completed.

Mr. Sidorov characterized OJSC TANECO environmental monitoring laboratory as one of the best laboratories in Tatarstan Republic. The Laboratory uses the latest tools of the Leading Manufacturers that ensure accurate and reliable results of laboratory tests and significant improvement of labor productivity related to the automation of major processes. Laboratory assistants spend the major part of their working time to monitor the atmospheric air quality. Sampling and analyses are done on a weekly basis at the boundaries of the sanitary protection zone in the following villages Klyatlye, Alan, Ishtiryakovo and at there locations in Nizhnekamsk. Since April 2011 and from the beginning of comprehensive equipment testing the atmospheric air quality is daily monitored in the following areas of the site: CDU-VDU, Loading Racks and Tank Farms. Monitoring is done by mobile environmental monitoring station.

The mobile station has already performed more than 16.5 thousand tests: treated waste water – 2800, portable water - 170, natural water – 163. The serious attention is given to the atmospheric air quality (8650 tests). According to OJSC TANECO Ecologists the analysis results indicate that the atmospheric air quality complies with the hygiene requirements.

Minister also visited such OJSC TANECO facilities as CDU-VDU, Naphtha Stabilization unit, Water Supply System and Sulphur Recovery Unit. At the end of the visit Mr. Sidorov declared the following: “Environmental issues are under OJSC TANECO continuous monitoring”.
