OREANDA-NEWS. June 14, 2011. Freight volume handled at Vostochny port (without Port Kozmino’s output) in January-May 2011 increased by 18% compared with the same period last year, to 9.68 million tons, the Port Authority statistics said.

Exports of coal rose by 17.3% to 7,79 million tons, of petroleum products - by 21.3% to 274,600 tons. Shipment of mineral fertilizers fell by 3.9% to 349,800 tons. In May, cargo throughput dropped by 9% to 1.26 million tons.

Vostochny Port (East Port) is the year-round navigable and the deepest port of the Russian Far East region. Vostochny Port is located on the coast Japan Sea, 20 km from the terminus of Trans-Siberian Railroad - the city of Nakhodka. Vostochny can handle vessels with draft up to 15.5 m, length - 280 m and breadth - 40 m. The port’s stevedore companies operate16 cargo berths, a few auxiliary berths at the terminals for handling coal, containers, fertilizer, methanol, timber, bulk and general cargo. In 2010, the port's cargo throughput (excluding Port Kozmino’s figures) increased by 7% year-over-year, to 20.34 million tons.
