OREANDA-NEWS. June 15, 2011. The first meeting of representatives of FAS Russia and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which every year organizes meetings with various agencies from a country – member of the IMF, took place on 9th June 2011.

The main issues discussed at the meeting, that are of most interest for the IMF, related to competition policy, which is an important element of economic policy pursued by the Russian Federation.

The Head of the FAS Russia’s Department for International Economic Cooperation, Lesya Davydova, talked about the main activities of the Antimonopoly Service and specific measures undertaken by FAS in order to develop competition in the Russian Federation.

Participants also discussed the issues related to competition enforcement on the most monopolized markets in Russia. The experts of the antimonopoly authority told the IMF representatives about measures being taken by FAS Russia to support competition on these markets, particular, about robust efforts towards developing and approving the rules of non-discriminatory access as well as about the most publicized antimonopoly cases on such markets.

The parties also covered the issues of liberalizing entry of foreign investors to the markets of the Russian Federation.

Once again FAS Russia was able to inform representatives of the international community about its work for improving the antimonopoly law and enforcement, which ultimately affects structural reforms in Russia in a positive way and helps attract foreign investment in the Russian economy.
