OREANDA-NEWS. June 15, 2011. Tallink will start operating on Turku- Kapellskar route with the cargo ship Kapella during summer season to increase the cargo transportation capacity on the routes between Finland and Sweden. Until now the ship has not been in active operations for half a year.

Increasing of the cargo transportation capacity on Finland-Sweden routes is necessary due to the increased demand of passenger vehicle transportation characteristic to the summer season. At the same time also the demand for cargo transportation remains. With Kapella it is possible for the company to keep the cargo service well available also during the high season.

Kapella will operate on Turku- Kapellskar route from 21st of June until 31st of August 2011. The departures from Turku will take place every weekday Saturdays excluded, at 10:30 with the arrival to Kapellskar at 20.30 the same evening. The departures from Kapellskar are scheduled for same weekdays at 22:30 with the arrival to Turku the next morning at 8:00. The exceptions in the schedule will be on 21.-23 of June and on 24th and 25th of June there are no departures due to the national holidays.

Additionally to Kapella, Finland-Sweden route is also regularly operated by another cargo ship SeaWind between Turku and Stockholm.

Kapella has not been in active service for about half a year. Last summer Kapella was replacing Regal Star on Paldiski-Kapellskar route, while she was the additional ship on Turku-Stockholm route.

Kapella, which has the capacity for 590 lane meters of cargo, was built in 1974 and renovated in 1999. Additional information about the route and time schedules is available on the company’s website.
