OREANDA-NEWS. June 15, 2011. The Turkmen-Russian Science and Innovation Forum “Innovations, New Technologies and Energy Efficiency Issues”, which added a new page to the history of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation in the spheres of science and technologies, took place at the Mizan Business Center in Ashgabat.

Heads and leading specialists from more than 40 departments, organizations, the Academy of Sciences, universities and research institutions, state corporations and companies from the Russian Federation took part in the forum. Government officials, specialists of ministries and state enterprises, scientific and research institutions of the Academy of Sciences, higher educational institutions, enterprises and departments represented Turkmenistan at the forum.

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov gave the congratulatory address to participants of the Turkmen-Russian Science and Innovation Forum “Innovations, New Technologies and Energy Efficiency Issues”. “Given modern realities and global development goals equal and promising partnerships between the two friendly states, Turkmenistan and Russia in the political, economic, scientific, technical and cultural spheres have been brought to a new level today and filled with a new content and quality ,” said the Turkmen leader in his congratulatory address. “Turkmen-Russian scientific contacts, active participation of scientists, specialists of the companies of the friendly state in international exhibitions and conferences in our country, implementation of dozens of projects and contracts with the share of the Russian capital in Turkmenistan are convincing evidence for enhancement and further promotion of the Turkmen-Russian dialogue”.

Underlining that Turkmenistan always stands ready to intensify multifaceted cooperation with the Russian Federation in priority fields and spheres, the Turkmen leader expressed belief that the Turkmen-Russian Science and Innovation Forum would significantly contribute to enhancing partnerships in this sphere.

Addressing the forum Minister of Science and Education of the Russian Federation Andrey Fursenko emphasized that Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation had the national strategies were aimed at directing the economic sector to an innovative path of development. The leadership of the two countries pursues the strategy for fundamental modernization to boost scientific and economic development and improve the standards of living of the two friendly peoples.

Minister A. Fursenko noted that over 20 bilateral scientific and technological projects in a number of priority field were implemented by academic institutions, higher educational establishments and other organisations of Russia and Turkmenistan today. Furthermore, there is the tremendous potential of unused opportunities to expand further scientific and technological partnerships. In this context several priority fields for further Turkmen-Russian cooperation were identified. These included advanced materials, nanotechnologies, power engineering and energy efficiency, telecommunications, biotechnology and pharmaceutics.

The forum participants discussed a wide range of issues related to key vectors of inter-academic cooperation, latest developments in various branches of science and technology, the construction, chemical, oil and gas, health, agricultural and other sectors.

Turkmen scientists briefed their Russian counterparts on the priority directions of development of the national science and technology sector and innovation and industrial development of the country. It was noted that Turkmenistan paid paramount attention to applying best practices and innovative solutions in the scientific and technology sector, including in such fields as energy efficiency, enhancement of competitiveness of Turkmen energy resources in the international markets, the use of alternative sources of energy of the sun, wind, thermal waters and biogases. Nearly all leading sectors of Turkmen economy, including the fuel and energy, chemical, agro-industrial and health sectors are dynamically developed to keep within the requirements of the scientific and technological advance.

Turkmen specialists made the presentations on the prospects for development of the chemical industry, gas chemistry, the use of scientific advances in medicine, exploitation of oil and gas reserves, increase of labour productivity in the agro-industrial and other sectors of the national economy.

Scientists and leading specialists from Russia shared experience in various branches of science and technology. Heads and experts of the Rossotrdunichestvo Federal Agency, the Russia-Turkmenistan Business Council, the Foundation for Development of the Centre of Research and Commercializing of New Technologies (Skolkovo Foundation), the International Union of Instrument Engineers and Specialists in Information and Telecommunication Technologies, the Institute of Physics of the Earth, the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Rostechnologiya State Corporation, the Institute of Oil and Gas of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the All-Russian Research institute on construction and maintenance of oil pipelines and facilities of fuel and energy complex, N. I. Vavilov Research Institute of Plant Industry, the Supreme Mountains Council of Russia and a number of other organisations and companies presented the reports at the forum.

The proposals to promote the Russian companies’ innovative developments in Turkmenistan, the current state and prospects for cooperation between young scientists of Russia and Turkmenistan and a number of other important issues. Business meetings and consultations between Russian guests and heads of Turkmen research institutions, enterprises and organisations were held within the framework of the forum.

At the conclusion of the forum the participants adopted the Address to the President of Turkmenistan.

The first Turkmen-Russian Science and Innovation Forum, which provide a platform for an active dialogue between the representatives of the scientific communities of the two countries, vividly illustrated the mutual intention to expand further mutually beneficial cooperation in the innovative sphere to boost economic growth of Turkmenistan and Russia and improve the standards of living of citizens of the two countries.
