OREANDA-NEWS. June 16, 2011. President Dalia Grybauskaite will travel to Tartu tomorrow, June 17, where she will meet with Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves and visit the University of Tartu.

During their meeting, the two presidents will discuss topical bilateral issues and ways to strengthen cooperation in the European Union, NATO and the region. Special focus will be placed on cyber and energy security, collaboration between the Nordic and Baltic countries as well as the upcoming negotiations on the EU's new financial perspective.

President Grybauskaite underlined that Lithuania and Estonia, having together reestablished their independence twenty years ago, were starting a new stage of concrete actions and joint initiatives.

"Baltic unity which was critical in the process of reestablishing Lithuanian and Estonian independence has evolved into permanent intensive work aimed at protecting common values and interests in the region, the European Union and NATO. Today, as we face new challenges, we have to continue working together to ensure energy independence the Baltic States and to respond to the new threats," the President said.

In 2012 Lithuania will be the coordinator of Nordic-Baltic cooperation, or NB8, and will take over the chairmanship of the Baltic States cooperation institutions.

It will be the sixth meeting between President Dalia Grybauskaite and President Toomas Hendrik Ilves. The Presidents of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia meet regularly at Baltic States' summits.
