OREANDA-NEWS. June 20, 2011. Federal Grid Company and Cisco signed a memorandum of understanding focused on the continued development of smart grid in Russia. The document was signed in the presence of Chairman of Federal Grid Company Oleg Budargin and Cisco Chairman and CEO, John Chambers. The ceremony of signing was held at the International Economic Forum in St. Petersburg.

The objective of the memorandum is to establish a mutually beneficial long-term collaboration in the electricity sector. One of the aims is to increase the reliability and efficiency of the transmission power grid of Russia.

In accordance with the document, both companies intend to develop a scientific and technical cooperation, which will focus on designing, developing and commissioning innovative equipment, and will aim to use solutions and technologies from Cisco. In particular, the parties will work to establish a long-term cooperation with particular focus on systems management, and the effectiveness and safety of Smart Grid.

The non-binding Memorandum allows the cooperation to be carried out with the involvement of the scientific and research institutions, universities, companies, scientific and other organizations.
