OREANDA-NEWS. June 21, 2011. From January to May this year, emissions of smoke dust from Stainless Steel Business Unit are much lower than the national clean production standard of 1 kg per ton. Thereof, there are 26 days of air quality reach Grade-1 of "Ambient air quality standard", which is better than the average from January to May in Shanghai.

Emission of smoke dust from steel enterprises is an old and big problem which will impact on the air quality. Stainless Steel Business Unit has set a goal of clean production at the beginning of construction. Under the background of environmental management promoted by Baosteel, Business Unit constantly increase input and optimize the process. 73 sets of large-scale dedusters for processes from iron and steel making to hot and cold rolling cover almost all production lines and smoke dust points of Stainless Steel Business Unit. Meanwhile, the Business Unit has established an internal emission standard which is stricter than the national emission standard. For example, national standard for the dust emission concentration of bag deduster in steel making plant and cold rolling plant is 100 mg/m3 while the internal control standard is 20 mg/m3.

Facing the "escape-proof net" casted by the dedusting system, smoke dust has to "go down without a fight". Take the steel-making plant as example who is the "traditional big family" on smoke dust emission pollution, the whole steel-making plant is designed as a big mac-style vacuum cleaner. First, the smoke dust shall "have a bath" in the dedusting tower, which is called wet dedusting, to deposit harmful substance. Then few smoke dust is left through the strong adsorption of more than 20 sealed spaces and more than 2000 bags. For the left smoke dust, there is a huge smoke absorber on the roof of full sealed plant, that is the last dedusting system on the roof, which will conduct carpet-catching and treatment again for the smoke dust. So, the smoke dust emission from the steel-making plant will have minimal impact on the air quality through these three dedusting systems. It is understood that only the stainless steel system in steel-making plant recycles several ten thousand tons of dust a year.

The idea of environmental management from Stainless Steel Business Unit will not only aim to eliminate smoke dust in the dedusting device. Furthermore, the Business Unit has established a dedusting project team and conducted the feasibility test on refining chrome-nickel alloy from the stainless steel dedusting dust for production use. In the near future, these main reasons for air pollution will be likely to be a kind of valuable raw material for stainless steel production after catching and revamping.
