OREANDA-NEWS. June 27, 2011. The regular issue of the Indian information analytical magazine Diplomatist published three articles on Uzbek-Indian relations. They describe the successfully built interaction between Uzbekistan and India in various fields.

“The countries formed a solid legal base, developing relations in all spheres. There is an effective mechanism of regular visits, meetings and exchanges at various levels, during which urgent issues of cooperation and identifying new areas of partnership are discussed. The countries have the same approach to most issues of global and regional policy,” Diplomatist writes.

The publication notes that in recent years the relations have significantly diversified in the economic sphere. Today, the cooperation is developing dynamically in textile, chemical and pharmaceutical industries, manufacturing of auto parts and many other sectors of the economy. Among the many foreign investors in Uzbekistan’s economy, India is one of the most active. In particular, in the period of 2007-2010, the Uzbek economy attracted the direct Indian investment amounting to USD 33.5 million. In 2011 two projects involving companies Spentex Industries in the textile industry and Minda Group in the automotive industry are being implemented in the country.

At the present time there are 18 offices of Indian companies and 62 enterprises with the Indian capital operate in Uzbekistan, including 11 enterprises with 100 percent foreign capital.

Further, Diplomatist states that both countries are interested in maintaining peace and stability in South and Central Asia. These two regions have a great potential for cooperation in trade, energy, transport and communication sectors. In this context, of a great importance the early implementation of a construction project of the International Trans-Afghan transport corridor, that significantly reduces the distance between Uzbekistan and India, as well as costs of shipping.

In this regard, the paper reported that the resolution of the problem of Afghanistan is of vital importance. Uzbekistan has always been one of the most active supporters of the early establishment of peace and stability in this troubled country, while pursuing a policy of only a bilateral cooperation, excluding various blocs or groups of approaches to solving the Afghan problem.

Diplomatist also writes that the Uzbek people have always been known for its creative approach to business and entrepreneurship. Throughout the centuries, unique traditions of a respectful and attentive attitude to land and property have been developed here. Developing small business and entrepreneurship, Uzbekistan is gradually moving towards a fundamental goal, which defines the essence of the ongoing reforms in the country, which is, creating middle class property owners that should form the foundation of a democratic society.

“In this context, the creation of favorable conditions, benefits and incentives, the provision of comprehensive support accelerated development of small business and entrepreneurship are the priorities of the government of Uzbekistan,” the magazine concludes.
