OREANDA-NEWS. June 28, 2011.  A new steam generating unit of 410 MW capacity June 25, 2011 successfully passed integrated trials at the site of Nevinnomyssk state district power plant (SDPP). The unit was built by a consortium of the Italian company Enel Ingegneria e Innovazione and Russian Atomstroyexport (a ROSATOM's company).

The integrated trials were to run the power unit continuously for 72 hours at the nominal power as per the schedule coordinated with the operator of the Northern Caucasus Power Grid.

Currently, a record of successful completion of the trials is formalized, which is necessary to obtain a permit for commercial operation from the customer and other interested parties. The new steam generator unit construction project at Nevinnomyssk SDPP is on the "List of Generating Facilities to be used for power supplies under related contracts, as approved by governmental directive No. 1334-r of 11.08.2010.

This project was one of the first projects in Russia implemented with the "open book" principle, with the contract price been unfixed and determined as a sum of "costs plus premium" at a pre-set reference cost. This approach allowed for transparency of investment spending and for substantial savings of the customer's funds.

A contract to build a steam generation unit of 410 MW capacity was signed by Enel OGK-5 and the consortium of Enel Ingegneria e Innovazione and Atomstroyexport on July 18, 2008. This project is financed under the Enel OGK-5's investment program for development of electricity generating capacities, which are predominantly steam-gas cycle installations. These installations possess high efficiency and produce minimum adverse impact of the environment. The contract for construction of the steam generation unit at Nevinnomyssk SDPP was concluded on EPCM terms, i.e. engineering, procurement, construction and project management.
