OREANDA-NEWS. June 28, 2011. Tata Power’s concerted efforts to provide employees a fun, challenging and learning environment at work received a shot in the arm with the recognition bestowed by the Great Place to Work Institute. The survey undertaken by the institute awarded Tata Power 38th rank for the best workplaces — companies that cared for its employees and vice versa.

According to the survey, Tata Power is featured because its employees place immense faith in it as an honest and reliable institution. They are extremely happy about a caring and safe workplace with good facilities and take pride in working for a Tata group company. The survey also concluded that Tata Reflections, a multi-rater or 360-degree appraisal tool wherein a leader is assessed by peers, subordinates and reporting officer, is the best HR practice at Tata Power. Tata Reflections allows to bring forth a holistic view of an individual as opposed to the conventional assessment process where the appraisal is done by only the superior.

More than 500 companies signed up for the survey, of which, 471 met the stringent eligibility criteria. A total of 67,000 employees across 20 sectors participated in the survey. The results of the survey reflect the first-hand feel of a workplace from an employee’s perspective.

The ranking among the top 50 best workplaces further reiterates the immense faith of 3,822 Tata Power employees in its honest and reliable management team.

Speaking on the occasion, Anil Sardana, managing director, Tata Power, commented, “This ranking is a testament of our continued focus on actively engaging the employees to deliver their best. We believe the cornerstone of a great workplace is trust and care for employees. At Tata Power, we identify, develop and tap the potential of our employees to ensure that each day provides them the excitement of facing a new challenge and great learning. We also encourage a two-way open communication, which has helped build trust and care for the employees.”

Tata Power’s human resource strategy is aligned to the business goals and focuses on building the right capacity (number) and right capability (competencies), developing the right culture and HR systems for preparing the organisation for a future with massive growth targets, and diversification across the power sector value chain.

The company has introduced various initiatives which have proved beneficial for the company and ensure a participative approach across the organisation. Tata Power continues its efforts to attract and retain talent, develop the required competencies and aspire for more growth with the right people processes.
