OREANDA-NEWS. June 30, 2011. The acting small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) in 2010 numbered 45.6 thousand, up 4.3 percent against 2009 and 28.8% - against 2006, according to the National Statistics Office. Incomes from SMEs’ sales in 2010 totaled 65.2 billion leis, up 13.5 percent in comparison with 2009 and 33 percent in comparison with 2006. 309.4 thousand people were employed in this sector in 2010, 2.1% less than in 2009.

The average incomes of an enterprise in the SME sector in 2010 totaled 1.43 million leis a year (8.7% more than in 2009), incomes per an employee – 210.9 thousand leis (+16%) and the number of employees – 7 people. About 41 percent of SMEs work in trade, 10.9 percent – in the processing industry. The biggest incomes in the SME sector were reported by trading enterprises – 50.1%; companies, working in the processing industry – 13.8 percent; transport and communications – 9.1%; construction – 7.7%, agriculture – 7%.

According to data of the National Statistics Office, small and medium-size enterprises make up 97.7 percent of all Moldova’s enterprises. About 60% of the country’s employed population are engaged in this sector. It accounts for 37 percent of incomes from sales in the Moldovan economy.
