OREANDA-NEWS. July 07, 2011. Moldova reduced wine production export to Russia by 53.5% in the first quarter of 2011 in comparison with the same period last year. ccording to the country’s balance of payments, grape wine in the amount of USD 6.31 million was supplied to the Russian market in this period, it was informed at the National Bank of Moldova.

Russia accounted for 24% of the total volume of Moldovan wine production export in January-March 2011. 80% of total volumes of Moldova wines, brandies and champagne used to be exported to Russia.

However, in late March 2006 Russia introduced a ban on Moldovan wine production supplies, claiming heavy metals and pesticides had been found in them. Later, when Moldova resumed the export, it still hasn’t managed to restore the previous level of wines and brandies supplies to Russia.
