OREANDA-NEWS. July 7, 2011. Tata Steel completed the first quarter of FY2011-12 with a significant increase in its production and sales volume as compared to the corresponding period of last year. The quarter registered the best-ever hot metal and crude steel production. The key production and sales figures are appended below.

„h  Highest ever hot metal production of 1,944kt in a quarter (previous best: 1,933kt in Q4 FYЎ¦11). 

„h  Highest ever crude steel production of 1,794kt in a quarter (previous best: 1,778kt in Q4 FYЎ¦11). 

„h  G blast furnace achieved highest-ever quarterly production of 566kt (previous best: 558kt in Q3 FY2008-09). 

„h  LD number 1 (one of the steel melting shops) achieved highest-ever quarterly production of 804kt (previous best: 799kt in Q4 FY2010-11). 

„h  LD number 2 (another steel melting shop) achieved highest-ever quarterly production of 990kt (previous best: 981kt in Q3 FY2009-10). 

„h  New bar mill achieved highest-ever quarterly production of 193kt (previous best: 188kt in Q4 FY2010-11). 

„h  16 per cent increase in long products sales over Q1 FY2010-11. 

„h  12 per cent increase in flat product sales over Q1 FY2010-11.

Other highlights

„h  Tata Steel was recognised by the Department of Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trademark, GOI, for the highest number of patents granted in the period of FY2006-07 to FY2010-11 in the category of Indian-owned private companies.

„h  Tata Steel has been named in Fortune magazine's 2011 list of ЎҐWorldЎ¦s Most Admired CompaniesЎ¦ for the third consecutive year (moved from 12th to 6th rank ) based on the annual survey conducted by Fortune magazine and Hay Group, a global management consulting firm.
