OREANDA-NEWS. July 8 2011. Tata Power, India’s largest integrated private power utility, in association with the Rotary Club of Cuttack, announced the opening of a career development centre at Naraj Marthapur. The career development centre was inaugurated by Praveer Sinha, executive vice president and director, eastern region projects, Tata Power. The centre has been established to benefit the local unemployed youth to garner knowledge and skills for various career opportunities across different sectors in India.

The career development centre will support the students as follows:

Impart knowledge about options in a specific career field.

Impart knowledge through coaching and counselling to get a job in both the government and the private sectors. 

Training to face personal interviews and mock tests. 

Conduct very similar test for AIEEE / OJEE, bank PO, clerk and Railway Recruitment Board. 

Information related to job opportunities in different sectors in India

Knowledge about moral education and value addition to existing knowledge of students. 

The land and building for the career development centre is provided by the Rotary Club and all recurring expenses including staff salary is borne by Tata Power.

The centre has already witnessed registration from 147 youth in villages around Naraj Marthapur. The registered students are from diverse educational backgrounds — 44 per cent students from technical backgrounds such as ITI, diploma engineering and MCA, 16 per cent students are graduates in different streams such as BA, B.Com and B.Sc and the balance 40 per cent are from intermediate (Class 12 pass).

Speaking on the inauguration Mr Sinha said, "The initiative further reiterates our commitment towards the development of the communities around our project areas. The career development centre has been established after assessing the needs of local youth and will play the role of a guide to help them enhance their employability both in the private and the government sectors."

Achyutananda Routray, president, Rotary Club of Cuttack, said, "We are happy to extend our support to Tata Power for this noble initiative. We are certain that the youth from nearby villages will benefit extensively from the information available at the centre."

Tata Power and the Rotary Club of Cuttack are also working towards engaging banks, railways, Staff Selection Board and Orissa State Public Service Commission to provide coaching to the registered students without any charges.
