OREANDA-NEWS. July 11, 2011. The Minister of Economy said it at the meeting of the Administrative Board on usage of the Road Fund’s money.

He said taxpayers pay their road taxes in time, that is why, the state is morally obliged to provide quality of roads. The Administrative Board’s members said they are concerned about the 40-day delay in financing of the repair works and about the increase in the debts to 65 million leis, complicating both fulfillment of works and remuneration of workers’ labor, the Ministry of Economy reported.

The Deputy Minister of Transport and Road Infrastructure Boris Gherasim said the course of works also depends on weather conditions and there is a risk that works scheduled for this year won’t be fulfilled. He also said he is concerned about the delay in organization of tenders. According to him, 16 out of 71 signed contracts were registered with a 20-day delay and the real period of organization of a tender is delayed to 60 days.

According to the Administrative Board’s report, repair works in the total amount of 323 million leis were carried out in the first half of 2011: 5,920 km of roads (2,850 km – national and 3,070 km – local roads) were repaired; 7,692 road signs were installed, 310 km of the roadway were marked. In 2011, 70% of the repair works are planned to be carried out by means of public tenders. The Administrative Board addressed to the Prime Minister Vladimir Filat with a request to transfer the Road Fund’s money according to its intended purpose.
