OREANDA-NEWS. July 13, 2011. Latvian sawmill Byko Lat has started up a third planing mill at its Valmiera site in a move which will increase its annual production by 40,000 cubic metres to 160,000 cubic metres, as TTJ reported.

“The main reason for the production capacity increase is to be more flexible with the production and decrease lead times to our customers,” said Valts Kurpnieks, Byko Lat managing director.

Sampsa Auvinen, CEO of Byko Lat’s owner Norvik Timber Industries, said the capacity increase also accommodated the production growth scheduled for next year at the group’s Laesti sawmill in Estonia.

Byko Lat’s Almiera operations also include a window and door factory, plus a prefabricated house plant.
