OREANDA-NEWS. July 19, 2011. Vilnius International Airport (VIA) will invite its passengers to evaluate taxi services. Such an initiative is launched to solve the arising problems of low quality servicing of passengers using taxi services, reported the press-centre of Vilnius Airport.

“Vilnius Airport does not assume responsibility for the services provided by the third parties, such as taxi operators, however, we receive a number of complains from passengers in relation to the use of taxi services: an unreasonably high fare paid, a receipt not issued, a taximeter not switched on,” VIA Managing Director Tomas Vaisvila says. He points out that the solution to such problems is only possible by analysing actual situations experienced by people instead of listening to the rumours flying around in the society. Therefore, VIA decided to launch a Fair Taxi campaign, which is expected to encourage people to evaluate and report on the taxi services on their drive from/to the airport.

The passengers are invited to express their remarks and proposals on the provision of taxi services by completing a questionnaire on the website of Vilnius Airport (at the address: www.vno.lt/taxi) or by sending a letter to Vilnius Airport. All the remarks and proposals made by passengers will be passed over to the Traffic Organisation Division of Vilnius City Municipality and other authorities concerned with taxi services in Vilnius City.

The Managing Director of Vilnius Airport highlights that the attractiveness of Vilnius City to tourists and Lithuanian residents must be the our common goal: “Vilnius Airport invites taxi companies, travel agencies, media and every citizen to join the campaign by promoting it.” According to him, it will definitely contribute to both improving the image of the market of taxi services and enhancing the image of the Lithuanian capital.

VIA proposed to place the stickers with a slogan “Fair Taxi. Please evaluate taxi services” on taxicabs. This initiative is expected to help VIA along with Vilnius City Municipality and taxi companies find appropriate measures to discipline unfair drivers.

Taxi is the most popular means of public transport for the drive from/to the airport. Currently, four taxi companies rent parking spots near Vilnius Airport: Pigus taksi, Merselita, M&N Logistics and VIP taksi. The passengers of Vilnius Airport may also call a taxicab of any other taxi company. The conditions are created for 45 taxicabs to work near the airport at a time.
