OREANDA-NEWS. July 25, 2011. The average monthly salary in Moldova in May 2011 amounted to 3,216 leis, up 12.9% against May last year and 2.6% - in comparison with April 2011. The average salary in May this year in the public sector amounted to 2,982.2 leis, 14.1% more than in May last year, in the real sector of economy – 3,324.1 leis (+12.6% against May 2010), according to the National Statistics Office.

The real earnings index in May 2011 amounted to 5.5% against May 2010 (given the consumer price index). The highest salaries in May 2011 were registered in the financial sector – 6,499.1 leis (+9.3% against May 2010), at the enterprises of the electricity-, gas- and water supply – 5,233.6 leis (+11.1%), and at the transport and communications enterprises – 4,014.2 leis (+6.5%).

The lowest-paid are still workers of the fish industry, with the average salary in May 2011 amounting to 1,548,1 leis (+10.8%), and the agrarian industry and forestry – 1,760.8 leis (+23%). Salaries remain low in the hotel business – 2,400 leis, education – 2,972.5 leis (+21.2%), trade – 2,710.2.1 leis (+17.1%), health care and social sector – 2,046.2 leis (+5.3%).
